Bake Off: The Grand Final
So there we have it, Britain’s biggest baking contest has finally come to an end. After 10 episodes, 12 contestants, countless soggy bottoms and dodgy innuendos, a new winner of The Great British Bake Off has been crowned.
Yesterday’s grand final saw Queen of the Pout, Candice Brown, named champion after reigning supreme in the show’s Royal Week. She’d won Star Baker three times throughout the series and both impressed and frustrated the judges with her creations.
But when she pulled it off she really did. Who could fail to have been impressed by her gingerbread pub complete with cola bottle on the table in Biscuit Week? And she rounded off her accomplishments when it mattered most, with the show-stopper of a picnic fit for the Queen at the final.
Judges Mary Berry and Paul Holywood praised her determination, passion and wonderful flavours, but her win meant two finalists lost out on the chance to own the coveted glass cake stand trophy: Andrew who brought his engineering skill to the Bake Off tent, including a spreadsheet of all things to the kitchen table, and Jane who went with patriotic red, white and blue for her mighty three layers of meringue.
One interesting nugget of information which hasn’t gone unnoticed is the fact 66-year-old Val, one of this series’ most popular contestants, is planning on a road trip to Ayia Napa, yes the party resort! We sense a Bake Off spin-off coming on, don’t you?
Here at UKMums.TV, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed bringing you our Bake Off run-downs over the series and we hope the show’s format stays much the same as it moves to Channel 4. We’d be interested to know your thoughts on last night’s episode. Did it leave you feeling flat as pancake or as uplifted as a perfectly turned out soufflé?
