Brits Warned After Airport Atrocity
A chilling suicide bombing at an Istanbul Airport has killed at least 36 people, injuring around 147 others. Our thoughts are with everyone affected. Turkey is on a ‘high’ terror alert and advice has been issued for British tourists in the country and those planning to travel there.
As the Express reports, Islamic State are believed to be behind the attack in which bombers opened fire at Ataturk Airport before exploding their devices. One British Airways flight was forced to turn back to the UK as it made its way to Istanbul and the Foreign Office is warning Britons in the area to follow the advice of the local security forces.
A Foreign Office spokesman is quoted as saying: "We are in close contact with authorities in Istanbul and urgently seeking further information following an incident at Ataturk airport. Our staff in Istanbul and London stand ready to support any British nationals affected." The Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice on its website states: “There has been an attack at the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. If you are in the area follow the advice of the local security forces. Please follow Travel Advice for further updates. Speak to your carrier for updated travel information.”
