Everyone remembers their favourite teacher, or their worst! That’s why we’re celebrating World Teachers Day today with a quick rundown of famous Brits who used to lead the classroom before taking the road to stardom. You’re sure to be surprised!

Katherine Jenkins

The Welsh beauty is better known now for her talents as a classical singer, but did you know she was once a teacher? She used to teach music at a primary school. We bet all the boys loved attending her class!

Sting

The legendary singer Sting was called Sir long before he became famous! The Grammy award-winner, real name Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, worked as a teacher for two years at St. Paul’s First School in Cramlington, Northumberland, before making it big in the music business. Who knew?!

J.K. Rowling

The popular author, who is better known as the creative mind behind the Harry Potter classics, was actual once a teacher. She’s taught English as a foreign language in Portugal!  She’s also admitted to some of her characters in Hogwarts being based on teachers from her youth.

Greg Davies

Comedian Greg Davies is famous for his stand-up routines, but did you know his first audiences were pupils? The incredibly tall comic, who stands at 6ft 8in, used to teach English and Drama at a series of secondary schools for 13 years. We bet the pupils had a laugh in his class!
