Could your postcode determine your fertility treatment?
Have you come across problems with finding the right IVF treatment that you need? You may not be the only one, as a report has found that there’s a postcode lottery when it comes to the fertility treatment available for women.
Nationally, women should be able to receive three cycles of treatment on the NHS and around 50,000 have IVF every year in the UK, but just 40% of the treatment is actually funded. The north of England is the best area in the country for women to have this treatment, however, in Scotland and Wales patients are only offered up to two cycles and, in Northern Ireland, just one cycle is provided.
In London, Camden is the only area with a Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which can fund three cycles of IVF, while parts of Essex and Norfolk no longer fund IVF treatment at all.
Do you agree that IVF treatment should be equally available in all parts of the country? Let us know your thoughts over on our Facebook and Twitter!
