Crufts comes under scrutiny with shock protest last night.
As some of you may know, Crufts is the world’s greatest dog show which has been running this year from 8th to 11th March. 27,000 dogs took part in the event and nearly 21,000 dogs competed for just seven places in the show’s finale, representing each of the individual dog groups!
If you watched the show last night, you may have noticed that the finale of Crufts descended into chaos as placard-waving animal right protestors stormed into the arena while the Best In Show trophy was being awarded.
The security scare saw two demonstrators from a vegan activist group backed by PETA burst through the barriers and into the ring at the NEC Arena in Birmingham.
PETA have identified Joel Cessio, 32, from Nice, France and Lolita Vernot Santamaria, 25, from Paris as the protestors.
PETA director Elisa Allen told the MailOnline: “Crufts glorifies pedigree fetishists” twisted pursuit of the ‘perfect dog’.
“There’s nothing natural about breeding dogs with extreme debilitating physical traits, and PETA urges everyone to stay away from this cruel beauty pageant.”
They added “breeding pedigree dogs in abnormal shapes and sizes leaves them with genetic predispositions to epilepsy, heart disease, deafness, hip dysplasia, and numerous other health problems.”
