Elton John rushed to hospital after contracting a “potentially deadly” infection
Elton John has announced that he will be cancelling several shows following contracting a bacterial infection in South America during his The Million Dollar Piano tour. The singer became violently ill at the end of his South America tour last week, requiring him to return to the UK for urgent treatment.
“Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection," said the star's management. The "potentially deadly" bacterial infection forced him to spend two nights in intensive care followed by an extensive stay at the hospital. The singer was forced to cancel a series of forthcoming performances including nine concerts that were due to be staged in Las Vegas and California over the next two weeks while the singer recovers from his illness.
Elton John has added: “I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”
The 70 year old singer has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the most successful artists of all time. He has also dedicated a considerable amount of time and effort to charitable work and has raised a huge £300 million for Elton John Aids Foundation! The singer is expected to return for his scheduled gigs at Twickenham, in London on 3 June. We hope you feel better Elton!
