Essential ‘Life Hacks’ To Make Life Easier

Hands up who would like life to be a little bit easier?

Whilst we can’t wave a magic wand and make all your troubles disappear, we have been compiling some of our favourite ‘life hacks’, simple and effective little tips and tricks that can make a mum’s life that bit easier.

Here’s just a few of our favourite ideas – make sure you add your own!

Lint Rollers to clean handbags, carpets etc
A lint roller to de-fluff your clothes is an absolutely essential piece of kit that can help de-clutter and clean almost anything. Use on the inside of your handbag to pick up loose change, crumbs and debris, on your floor to pick up any glitter the kids spilt whilst making crafts or even use it as a way to easily capture and release bugs on the floor.

Walnuts to repair hard-wood floors and tables
Sounds silly, but rubbing a walnut gently onto a hard-wood floor or table (depending on the colour) can help to fill in cracks. Trust us!

Kitchen Scissors as pizza cutters
One of the most common tricks a mum uses is swapping a knife for a good pair of kitchen scissors. They make cutting things like raw chicken and pizza a snip!

Using a dustpan to fill a bucket
One of those ‘I can’t believe I didn’t think of that’ ideas, which makes trying to fill buckets and any other containers that don’t fit in the sink a piece of cake. Simply place an empty and clean dustpan on your sink, so that the handle is pointing away from the sink. Place your bucket underneath, turn on the tap and watch the water funnel down the handle into the bucket. Genius!

Use drink cans to save space
A little trick which has doubled our wardrobe space! Just collect the ring pulls from drinks cans, wash and thread over the end of a coat hanger. Use the spare hole of the ring pull to hang another hanger, effectively giving you a whole new row of space!

Keep fruit fresher for longer
These seem to be passed on from mum to mum, but are still effective today! Put an apple in with your bag of potatoes to stop them from growing buds and separate your bunch of bananas before sticking in your fruit bowl or they’ll ripen even faster.

Using tennis balls to change a bulb
If you cut a tennis ball in half you can save the ends to grab a burnt out lightbulb instead of using your hands or a towel when it’s still too hot to touch.

Stop vacuuming toys
A simple way to ensure you don't suck up tiny toys that have found their way under the couch or a loose earring is to put the end of a pair of tights over the end of your vacuum cleaner. If thin enough you should be able to still clean the house and make sure only dirt gets lost.

Keeping wrapping paper in one piece
Instead of letting the end of wrapping paper get creased, ripped and thrown straight in the bin, just snip an empty toilet roll holder in half and wrap around each roll. Hey presto – the wrap stays together.

Stay tuned – we’ll be bringing you lots more life hacks in the coming weeks. Have you used any of the above? Let us know your favourites and suggest your own in the comments section below!
