Women could be exposing themselves to infertility and even risking their unborn child’s life every time they fake it as research shows fake tans could be potentially lethal.
Officials warn that the products contain a ‘cocktail’ of potentially lethal chemicals including skin irritants, carcinogens which are linked to cancer and hormone disrupters which could affect fertility and be harmful to unborn babies.
It’s thought the chemicals are putting us at risk because unlike make-up which is limited to the face, fake tan is applied to the whole body regularly which increases the amount of chemicals we’re exposed to.
Jacqueline McGlade, executive director of the European Environment Agency, suggested consumers should take a “precautionary approach” until more is known. She added: “[the chemicals found in fake tan] may be a contributing factor behind the significant increases in cancers, diabetes, obesity and falling fertility. It’s the cocktail effect.”
Do you think this is just another health scare? Or will you stop fake tanning now? Let us know what you think.
