Facebook hits one billion users in just one day
The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has announced that over a billion people used Facebook in a single day. The milestone was reached for the first time on Monday when “one in seven people on Earth used Facebook to connect with friends and family”, according to Zuckerberg. On his Facebook page, Zuckerberg also said that this was “just the beginning of connecting the whole world”, adding that he was proud of our community and the progress we’ve made.
In October 2012 the social networking site gained its billionth user, following the founding of the company by Zuckerberg in 2004. The site currently has around 1.5 billion users, with the most amount of active users coming from Canada, and as of June this year on average 968 million people were active daily on Facebook.
According to Zuckerberg, the social networking site will continue to grow, especially following this important milestone being reached. The focus for Facebook now will be expanding its users into Africa, Asia and Latin America, as the US and Europe are currently in the lead when it comes to Facebook users.
