Great British Bake Off: Episode 3
If you didn’t know already (where have you been?!) The Great British Bake Off is back! Now into week three the competition is really hotting up and viewers have their predictions in.
In last night’s episode it was bread week, Mr Hollywood’s domain, and there was plenty of undercooked dough, burnt bottoms and a super sweet signature bake.
For the first time ever the bread week signature challenge was sweet and sticky. The bakers were asked to create a chocolate bread to defeat all. Personally we are happy with Nutella sandwiches but some of the creations had us drooling!
The technical followed, presenting a tricky German classic, Dampfnudel, which in Mary Berry’s words is an iced bun without the icing. Underdog Val was triumphant claiming the number one spot just ahead of youngster, Andrew.
This week’s showstopper challenge was to create a savoury plaited bread that incorporated three flours. From a recreation of Noah’s Ark to a Thor’s Hammer that looked somewhat phallic, the bakers were as creative as ever, with some biting off more than they could chew.
The curse of the star baker struck again, with last week’s winner Candice falling to the bottom of the pack but it was mild-mannered Michael that was sadly sent home. This week’s superhero baker was Tom who now has to live up to Mr H’s prophecy that “the star baker of bread weeks has always gone onto the final”. We aren’t so sure Tom will make it, but we hope he proves us wrong!
