Great British Bake Off: Episode 8

Great British Bake Off: Episode 8

Last night we donned our petticoats and ruffs to watch what was perhaps the most upsetting episode of GBBO yet, this season. (With exception to Val’s leaving speech of course!).

“Why was the episode so upsetting?” we hear you ask. This week, our predicted winner and flavour crazy favourite, Benjamina, was kicked out of the Bake Off tent.

Now, not to play devil’s advocate and be totally and utterly biased but we think this was the wrong decision and it in fact should have been the nation’s favourite Selasi that was sent packing. But let’s move on to the recap and hold back our tears.

This week was Tudor week and the bakers were faced with pies, Jumbles and a marzipan showstopper.

Last week’s star baker Andrew defeated the “Curse of the Star Baker” and held his own. It was his mechanical, cog shaped pies that in our opinion stole the show but Candice pipped him to the post for this week’s crown with her colourful marzipan peacock showstopper.

The Tudor Technical proved difficult with none of the bakers knowing just what a ‘Jumble’ was. These spiced vanilla biscuits were a popular snack back in the day but they presented the bakers with the tricky challenge of moulding and shaping temperamental biscuit dough into Celtic knots and knot balls. We can’t say at that moment we were envious!

We are certainly excited for next week’s semi-final episode (Patisserie week- YAY!) however we will be watching wearing black to mourn the loss of Benjamina. Our new predicted winner? Candice. She is just TOO good!

Do you think the right person went in last night’s GBBO? Who is your predicted winner? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter.
