Great British Bake Off: Episode 9
Last night the nation sat down to watch the semi-final of this year’s Great British Bake Off. We (and of course the contestants) have had our highs and our lows this season and I think we speak on behalf of Britain when we say we will be sad to see this series end.
From the infamous soggy bottom to a sticky gingerbread carpet and from Val’s heart-breaking leaving speech to a tremendous ‘Ferris wheel of lard’ this season has seen it all.
Sadly last night is was heartthrob Selasi’s time to leave the tent after a few patisserie week disasters. Undercooked Palmiers, an under-soaked Savarin and underwhelming fondant fancies saw him say goodbye much to the despair of many Bake Off fans watching.
This week’s technical challenge was yet another unheard of bake. The Savarin is a citrus-flavoured yeasted cake that is soaked in orange liqueur syrup and crowned with Chantilly cream and fresh fruit. YUM! This seemed to go down well with the contestants, there were only a few minor challenges but all in all the results were good!
When it came to this week’s fondant fancy showstopper it was only really star baker Andrew that produced a smooth glossy successful batch with all of the other bakers struggling to get the right fondant drip.
Left with watering mouths, heavy hearts and an itch to get to next Wednesday sooner rather than later, we are ready for the big final! But who will win the coveted glass cake stand?
As next week takes us into the final, we will watch Andrew, Jane and Candice battle it to the end. Who is your predicted winner? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter!
