Here’s a reason why it’s good to be a parent
A new study’s been released which for once offers some good news for parents rather than usual doom and gloom. Read on to find out more!
It’s because new research has been found to show that mums and dads live longer, by as much as two years, and the benefits of having children persists even when mums and dads reach the tender age of 80 years old and over. Are you, like the UKMums.TV team, finding this hard to believe, what with all the additional worry and sleepless nights over the years. Surely parenthood shortens your life instead due to the stresses and strains mums and dads endure?
As the Mirror reports, the world-renowned Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, studied more than 1.4million people and tracked the lifespan from the age of 60 of all men and women born between 1911 and 1925 living in Sweden.
After looking at the figures, they discovered that men and women who had at least one child experienced lower death risks than childless men and women. And at 60 years of age, the difference in life expectancy between those with children and those without was almost two years for men and 1.5 years for women. Plus, aged 60, men with children could expect to live for another 20.2 years, whereas men without children could expect a further 18.4 years, an almost two-year difference!
The researchers behind this study say an influence over a longer life could include the fact that parents live healthier lives than those who are childless. We’d love to know to what you think. Tell us your thoughts over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
