High street stores to drop prices in a bid to lure customers in on Christmas Eve
Millions of shoppers are today expected to hit the high street to get their last minute Christmas shopping done. But to boost sales many stores are looking to slash prices and begin the January sales early.
Retail expert Richard Hyman said 72% of the high street was already on sale, adding that he had "never seen anything remotely like it" over more than 30 years' analysis.
A poll for Sainsbury’s bank credit card suggests that shoppers could spend as much as 1.4 billion today as the high street stores are launching their sales in an attempt to get their share on this spending. This was backed up by study done by Barclaycard that suggested over 25% of people who plan to buy in this years sales will be doing so today.
Notable stores with sales starting today include Currys PC World, John Lewis and AO.com.
