Is the May half term proving to be costly?
This week many working parents have been feeling the cost of half term, with some choosing to take unpaid leave from work and losing an average of £309.64.
A survey by Voucherbox.co.uk found that parents will spend around £133.50 on trying to keep children entertained during half term in an attempt to avoid those “I’m bored” moments we’re all familiar with. The survey also found that 70% of parents agreed that the cost of school holidays has risen over the past five years, making it stressful for parents to balance work and childcare when kids are not at school.
This half term parents have chosen to keep children busy in different ways, with many opting for short term activities such as going to the cinema or the park. Other families will go to visit relatives over the break or will choose to go on holiday either in the UK or abroad. Whichever way parents choose to spend the time with their kids, the cost is likely to be felt by many over the short break.
