It’s not what you eat but WHEN you eat that’s key to diet success
Forget stocking up on fat-free foods, new research reveals that dieters can enjoy their favourite dishes as long as they stick to a fixed schedule of meal times – meaning it’s not what you eat, but when you eat!
Scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem studied mice and discovered that a high fat diet eaten at scheduled meal times offered the same results as those eating a low fat diet at various times throughout the day. Unsurprisingly the third group of mice who were eating high fat foods whenever they wanted fared the worst and put on the most weight.
Researchers found that sticking to strict meal times can counter the effects of a high fat diet and that the diet plan can also help prevent obesity and boost metabolism as the body burns off fats to use between meal times instead of storing it.
So could this spell the end of fat-free diet dishes? Apart from the obvious fact that mice work a little differently to humans, the NHS has warned that a high fat diet will still make you put on weight and unsurprisingly it is also more dangerous to your health.
