Jude Law to play young Albus Dumbledore in sequel to Fantastic Beasts
Calling all Harry Potter fans, the moment you have all been waiting for has arrived. Young Dumbledore has finally been cast and we are very excited!
The news was announced on Pottermore yesterday and was met with much fan hysteria. The next actor to be part of the Harry Potter franchise will be Jude Law! The Oscar-nominated actor will play the young Albus in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The returning director David Yates was also full of praise when he said, ‘Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I’ve long admired and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.’
The new film will depict the Albus in his life before Hogwarts and will also see Johnny Depp return as Gellert Grindelwald, the villainous wizard briefly seen at the end of the first Fantastic Beasts film. J.K. Rowling has spoken about the close relationship between the Hogwarts headmaster and the dark wizard saying the Hogwarts headmaster was once in love with the dark wizard. Professor Dumbledore remains somewhat of a mystery even for the most committed of Harry Potter fans so this sequel could mean unearthing even more of the Dumbledore backstory.
Five films are planned in the franchise, with Eddie Redmayne returning to star as Newt Scamander and David Yates returning as director. The sequel to Fantastic Beasts is scheduled for release 16 November 2018.
