Kylie vs Kylie: Minogue tries to stop Jenner trademarking “Kylie”
Singing star Kylie Minogue is trying to stop reality TV personality Kylie Jenner from using “Kylie” as a trademark in America. Minogue’s lawyers KDB say that if Jenner wins approval then confusion would be caused between the two Kylies and Minogue’s brand would be weakened. The company also pointed out that the term “Kylie” is a registered trademark that covers entertainment services and music recordings.
Kylie Jenner, known for being Kanye West’s sister-in-law, has been using her own name for a cosmetics line which she has shared with her 53 million followers on Instagram. However Kylie Minogue, who has had record sales of more than 80 million and launched her website in 1996 before Jenner was even born, has opposed Jenner’s application to use the name “Kylie” as a US trademark.
It appears that Minogue’s fans are also opposed to the trademark, using the hashtag “TheresOnlyOneKylie” on Twitter to show support for the Australian pop star.
