Laura Basset own goal sends England ladies out of the world cup
England were eliminated from the Women’s World Cup in the early hours of the morning due to a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Japan.
The deciding goal happened during stoppage time and came from an attempted clearance from Laura Basset which unfortunately looped over her own goal keepers head and went into the back of the net. After the goal, England were not left enough time to equalise, this meant that they were eliminated.
They are now due to play Germany for their chance to finish third and win a bronze medal.
After the game England winger Karen Carney spoke to BBC Newsbeat "To be at a semi-final and to be so close and to be the better team is just heart-wrenching,"
"Everyone's put in not just 18 months of work... it's probably since we were 11-years-old"
England will play Germany for third place on Saturday 4th July at 9:00 PM
