Marks and Spencer faces facts and turns to food
The UKs most famous retailer, Marks and Spencer has shifted its emphasis from clothing which has seen the firm's profits plummet in recent years. Now the high street is to see an increase in Marks and Spencer food outlets and a reduction in stores selling clothing.
Over the next few years the store will have 60 fewer stores selling clothing and homeware, while 30 stores will close completely.
The rest will be turned into food stores and chief executive Steve Rowe also plans to open 200 new Simply Food shops as part of turnaround plans.
The retailer also said it would exit 10 loss-making international markets.
It comes as M&S reported falling sales and profits in the six months to the end of September.
The question is "Why did you last visit a Marks and Spencer store? And was it for food?" A straw poll in the UKMums.TV offices says its food all the way. So while a difficult decision for all, it could be the right one!
