Millions set to get away for bank holiday weekend
Millions of British holidaymakers are expected to be heading off on short breaks this bank holiday weekend as the school summer holidays are coming to a close. Many Britons are thought to be planning “staycations” over the three-day break, with many more going out on day-trips across the country. On top of this, as many as 1.9 million people could be heading abroad for the August bank holiday to catch a glimpse of the sunshine before September begins, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
As many people head off on holiday, there are expected to be delays on the roads, especially around airports, and travellers have been warned that there could be delays to public transport. However the expected delays have failed to hinder the 4.5 million Brits who are expected to make a getaway on home turf.
With around 15 million people still undecided about how to spend the bank holiday weekend, Visit England have emphasised that it is never too late to plan a short break and to visit a range of attractions up and down the country.
