Monarch Airlines Collapse – half-term holiday nightmare on the horizon!
Waking up this morning you will have seen the news about Monarch Airlines going into administration and you could be one of the 100’s of thousands affected.
Most of all can we offer our sympathy to the 2000+ employees who are waking up to possible job losses this morning; it is without doubt they are the biggest losers.
But if you’re stuck abroad waiting to see if the CAA can arrange a return flight or you could be at an airport not knowing if you are going on holiday or not, there’s immediate major disruption. And for families who have booked for half term, Monarch is one of the main carriers to the short-haul holiday destinations and with just four weeks to go, your plans could be in upheaval.
Here’s a few quick tips.
1. If you booked your flights as a package you should get a full refund but it could take a while
2. If you booked flights only – check to see if you paid by credit card – if it cost over £100 you should be also covered
3. If you booked a flight by debit card - it gets more complicated and each person must go to their card issuer and see what their individual rules are.
4. Travel Insurance – insurers are already making their excuses, so this could be a problem.
