National Offer Day for Secondary School Students
If your child is in their last year of primary school then today is an important day! More than half a million children will find out today which secondary school they will be attending in September, with tens of thousands expected to miss out on their first choice place. The growing population has led to heavy demand in primary schools and the same effect is now being felt in secondary schools. Last year there were 54,600 appeals against secondary school allocations and this year the figure is expected to rise as competition for the best places is even tighter.
What happens if your child doesn’t get their first choice? You will be told that you have the right to appeal and say why you disagree with the decision and why your child should have a place at the school. Your local authority will then assess whether there are any new exceptional circumstances or whether a mistake was made with the original application. Alternatively, you can contact your local council to find out which schools in your area still have places available.
We at UKMums.tv wish your children the best of luck if they are starting secondary school in September!
