The latest reality tv show offering, The Valleys has enraged Welsh residents and has been condemned by thousands on twitter.
Although it’s called The Valleys, the show is actually based in Cardiff and the first episode saw the nine housemates engage in some questionable activities including stripping off and fighting.
Lateysha Grace, 19, describes herself as a Beyonce lookalike and cheats on her long-term boyfriend with both male and female housemates, also admitting she won’t be staying faithful during the series.
Before it was aired, Cardiff born Charlotte Church spoke out about her concerns and told the BBC: “I think it will be exploitative and a horrific representation of the country that I love.”
The show caused a backlash on twitter with @ChrisPiper88 saying: “Watching@MTVTheValleys for the first time and I can safely say it will be the last!! I feel ashamed to be welsh!!” Whilst @bethanhorton tweeted: “I’m actually embarrassed at the people on The Valleys omg what absolute states. Disgusting.”
MPs have also raised their concerns with the programme as Rhondda MP Chris Bryant told Wales Online: “It’s all about people getting very drunk and being as deliberately outrageous as they possibly can be. That’s not what the Valleys are like.”
But despite the controversy there is already a celebrity following with Jonathan Ross tweeting: “Just turned over to The Valleys on ITV. Awesome. My wife disagrees.” Then later: “My wife has made me turn over from The Valleys. Now I'll never know what happens to the girl who peed on her friends in the shower. Damn.”
Do you agree with Jonathan Ross and think it’s just a bit of fun or do you think Charlotte Church is right and that the show is bad news?
