Nostalgic treats and tech toys – the most-wanted Dream Toys for Christmas are revealed

Pay attention Santa! The 13 hottest toys that are being tipped for major success this Christmas were unveiled at Dream Toys yesterday, with blasts from the past and hi-tech toys dominating most festive wish-lists.

Parents will be pleased to see that amongst lots of the new tech additions, nostalgic favourites are also making a comeback, with Furby, Cabbage Patch Kids, LEGO and Sylvanian Families all standing the test of time.

Here’s our whistle-stop tour of the toys that are set to be hot – plus some of our favourites which we think should be on the list:

Blasts from the past:

Furby, Hasbro, £59.99
Again another nostalgic treat – love or hate them, there’s no denying the Furby is going to feature heavily on wish lists this year. The fluffy, interactive pets have had a little tech make-over for their comeback, now sporting expressive LCD eyes , an ability to become ‘naughty or nice’ depending on how you treat them and even an app that lets kids feed them on an iPad.

Cabbage Patch Kids, JAKKS Pacific, £29.99
Just one of the toys that mums will remember from their own childhoods, there’s no denying these dolls are going to delight the next generation just as much. With hundreds of combinations of facial features the idea is that girls can create a Cabbage Patch Kid just like them!

For Girls:

Sylvanian Families Campervan, Flair, £39.99
It’s no secret that we’re huge Sylvanian Families fans and if you’re going to buy any Sylvanian toys this year it has to be the Campervan. Named as a top girls’ toy this year, with heaps of intricate details and accessories, it offers great play value for the cost and doubles up as a vehicle to zoom about in and a playset for favourite characters to play in.

Monster High Ghouls Rule Dolls, Mattel, £22.99
Finally – a Barbie-like doll that isn’t all blonde and buxom! Whilst we’re definitely not anti-Barbie here, it was great to see an alternative fashion doll on offer, this time with a ghoulish twist.

LEGO Friends: Olivia’s House, Lego, £69.99
Aimed at getting girls into construction, Olivia’s House is all pinks and pastels, with a role play element so girls can play as Olivia and her friends after they’ve built the play set. Yes it might make anti-pink parents raise an eyebrow, but there’s no denying girls love it.

For Boys:

Mike the Knight’s Deluxe Glendragon Playset, Character Options, £29.99
Pre-schoolers can’t get enough of Mike the Knight so it’s no surprise that this impressive playset is one of the most coveted toys at the moment. With a Knight’s chamber and a secret slide down to Mike’s trusty steed Galahad, it’s also one of the most affordable items on the list – sure to make mums and dads happy!

Trash Pack Scum Drum, Flair, £24.99
Squidgy, gross and shaped like garbage – it’s not hard to see the appeal of these popular boys’ collectables. The Trash Pack has been on our radar since they were first released and have proved to be must-haves on the playground, with this larger playset on collector’s letters to Santa this year.

Angry Birds Star Wars, Character Options, from £3.99
Angry Birds plus Star Wars? What’s not to love?! Although we think this intergalactic range is going to be popular with kids, we know a few Darth Vader pigs will make it into mum and dad’s stocking fillers too.

Tech:

Skylanders Giants, Activision Blizzard, £14.99
Brand new and already taking the gaming world by storm, the collectable Skylanders figures which enhance and change the game experience are set to be some of the most coveted collectables for tech-savvy kids.

InnoTab 2, VTech, £84.99
The first of two tablets in the top 13, the touch-screen InnoTab 2 is building on the success of the first edition with educational apps, games and new features including rotating self-portrait camera, microphone and more fun content to download.
