Prince Phillip retires from royal duties
At age 96 Prince Phillip has finally began his retirement! Can you believe that he has only just retired? Imagine if we all had to work until we were 96!
Today, Prince Phillip will meet the Royal Marines to mark his final public engagement before he retires from his royal duties. The Duke of Edinburgh announced his retirement back in May, after 70 years of supporting the Queen, as well as attending events for his own charities and organisations.
Over 750 organisations have made him a member, patron or even president and Prince Philip has completed a massive 22,219 solo engagements since 1952 and has given a whopping 5,496 speeches! That is a lot of events!
Although we won’t be seeing as much of Prince Phillip over the next few years, the Queen’s public service duties will continue as normal.
We wish Prince Phillip all the best in his retirement; we think he has definitely earned it! Let us know your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.
