Regular household cleaning items could be increasing our risk of cancer!
Household cleaning items have come under fire this morning for their dangerous link to lung cancer. While we have always been aware of the importance to keep bleach and disinfectant out of the reach of small children, have we ever really understood the potential threat that these products could have on us? The ones that use them!
A new study led by Dr Orianne Dumas has said that using bleach as little as once a week can increase our risk of developing lung cancer by up to 32 per cent! Who would have thought that the products within your household could be the ones most damaging to you and your family!
The study has linked use of disinfectant with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which is usually associated with smoking, so breathing in these products can almost be as harmful as smoking -can you believe it!
We have always known that the fumes from cleaning products were strong, yes, but we never thought they were potentially cancerous! This study is particularly worrying for those of us who work in conditions where a lot of bleach is used for example cleaners or even nurses are at a higher risk of inhaling these harmful substances.
Will this study change your mind when it comes to using bleach in your home? Let us know your thoughts on this on Facebook and Twitter.
