Rio 2016: What will be the key events?
The Olympic Games will finally be getting underway in Rio this week, but with so many negative stories surrounding the games there’s been little focus on the exciting sporting events that will be taking place. With 19 days of competition to enjoy there’s something for everyone to look forward to, you might even find a new favourite sport!
Many of Team GB’s athletes will fancy their chances in Rio, including Sir Bradley Wiggins, who will be hoping for gold in his final Olympics, and Andy Murray, who will look to replicate his gold medal from London 2012. Other stars to look out for include Usain Bolt, who is likely to live up to his title of world’s fastest man in the 100m and 200m, and swimmer Michael Phelps, the most successful Olympian of all time.
One date to look out for is 13th August, which could see a repeat of London 2012’s Super Saturday for Team GB stars including Greg Rutherford in the men’s long jump final, Mo Farah in the men’s 10,000m final and Jessica Ennis-Hill in the women’s heptathlon final.
