Should women be forced to wear high heels at work?
Does your job require you to wear heels throughout the working day? If it does, do you enjoy wearing heels to work?
Over the last few months there have been calls to introduce a law banning companies from telling women to wear high heels at work. This comes after a petition was started by Nicola Thorp who was sent home from work for wearing flat shoes!
Did you know that UK employers can dismiss staff who fail to live up to ‘reasonable’ dress code and apparently high heels are included in that ‘reasonable’ dress code! How outdated and sexist is that!
While some of us may enjoy wearing heels to work it is unfair to penalise women who don’t want to wear them by making it a requirement of their job role! Especially when wearing heels everyday could have serious health implications.
Studies have shown that there is a link between wearing high heels and an increased risk of bunions, pain and injury. Do we really want to increase our chances of these by wearing heels every day?
