Strictly Come Dancing winner Aliona Vilani leaves show
Strictly Come Dancing professional Aliona Vilani has announced that she will be leaving the BBC show after winning this year’s glitterball trophy with Jay McGuiness. Vilani said that this year’s series had been her “best Strictly experience ever”, but the professional dancer made her decision clear on Twitter, saying that she had decided the latest series of the show would be her last. The dancer has been on the show for seven years, winning for the first time with Harry Judd in 2011 and then with Jay McGuiness this year.
Vilani and McGuiness are booked in for next year’s Strictly Come Dancing live tour, which starts off in Birmingham on 22nd January. The pair won this year’s Strictly after beating EastEnders’ Kellie Bright and Coronation Street’s Georgia May Foote in the final, with the public vote helping them to secure the victory.
Since joining the show Vilani has partnered Rav Wilding, Matt Baker, Tony Jacklin and Gregg Wallace, as well as briefly partnering Johnny Ball before an ankle injury meant she had to pull out of the competition. She is the second professional, after Ola Jordan, to announce that she will not be returning to the show.
