Summer holiday childcare struggle for working parents
How will your children be spending their summer holidays this year? With many children about to break up for the school holidays, parents will be finding it hard to seek appropriate affordable childcare for their children.
Councils across Britain have reported a shortage in the number of childcare places available this summer, with many families having two parents who will be working throughout the holidays. The average cost of holiday childcare has risen by 20% since 2010 and many families face limited choice and high costs when it comes to picking care for children over the summer.
The BBC reported that just 12% of councils said that they have enough holiday childcare places this summer. A public sector childcare scheme will cost a family around £100 per week, with private childcare reaching as much as £123 per week.
