Susanna Reid hailed as ‘brave’ for no make-up selfie
How many of us are brave enough to venture out without our make-up or, even better, post a selfie au naturel? Well, TV presenter Susanna Reid recently did just that to encourage women not to compare themselves to other people on social media. Her Instagram shot was captioned: “Me on Instagram = extra eyelashes, make-up and filters. Me in Real life = blemishes, lines and flaws. There’s a time & value for both but don’t compare your behind-the-scenes to others’ highlights reels. Happy Being You Year!”
Her co-presenter on Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan, hailed her as brave for making a move few women in the spotlight would do. Fans have also praised her and have commented that it’s a shame more famous ladies wouldn’t do the same.
Speaking about her decision, Reid said: “I feel people feel a little bit awkward or inadequate when they’re looking at social media and looking at pictures of people so I thought, ‘I’m going to post a photograph without my TV face on’.” She added: “What I want to say to women is don’t compare your behind the scenes to other people’s highlights reels. What you see on social media is people at their best very often.”
Then, quoting Theodore Roosevelt, she ended by saying: “Comparison is the thief of joy. At four o’clock in the morning I look pretty rough. Don’t feel down looking at social media because the reality isn’t quite so pretty.”
