Teenagers left distraught as One Direction gig cancelled
Thousands of teenagers were left devastated last night as One Direction cancelled their gig in Belfast just two minutes before the band were due to take to the stage. The gig was cancelled after group member Liam Payne reportedly fell ill not long before the band would have appeared on stage. The band’s PR agency said that Payne was taken ill, making him unable to go onstage and forcing the band to cancel their gig at Belfast’s SSE Arena.
Fans of the group had already listened to the support acts and most had taken their places inside the venue before the show was cancelled with just two minutes notice. Thousands of young girls at the venue were described as “weeping” and many took to Twitter to express their anger, saying that they were “disappointed” and “distraught”.
Band members Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson tweeted their apologies, with Styles saying: “Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast. Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We're very sorry.” Tomlinson added that what happened was “out of our control” and fans have been told to hold on to their tickets.
