The benefits of doll play
As we’ve been looking at all things Tinsy Winsy Weeny Tots over the past couple of weeks, we thought it would be a great idea to find out more about how playing with dolls can benefit children. Read on to see what we discovered!
Creativity and imagination – Children naturally start to create imaginative stories when they play with dolls and in turn this has a really positive effect on their development. Using their imagination more helps children to make sense of the world around them and improve all sorts of skills such as vocabulary.
Empathy – Nurturing and caring for a baby doll helps little ones to develop empathy and an understanding of others around them. Even though they’re only dolls, you’ll notice kids being mindful of what might hurt their doll or upset their doll, and this is a really key lesson to learn during childhood.
Social skills – Playing imaginatively with dolls encourages children to communicate more and consequently become more sociable. As their vocabulary develops they’ll also learn to express themselves more.
Responsibility – Having a small doll to look after will give kids a sense of responsibility and teach them that their actions have an effect on others. You’ll also find this gives kids a confidence boost as they have their very own little baby to protect and care for.
