The joy of the empty nest! Two thirds of parents convert child’s bedroom within months of moving

Despite the sadness of a child leaving home, empty nesters waste no time in moping – as a new poll reveals one in ten will convert their child’s empty room within the first weeks of them leaving!

The poll by Staples found that two thirds of parents had already started planning what they would do with the extra space before their child had even moved out, with 80% starting work in the first six months.

Whilst it’s difficult to contemplate changing their child’s room whilst they’re at university, a quarter of mums and dads will make it a spare room, whilst one in ten convert their child’s space into a gym or office.

And too right! Although it would be nice to keep a shrine of your child’s room, a whole room left unused for most of the year is a waste when most of us don’t have enough space as it is.

So what’s your verdict? Would/did you keep your child’s room untouched? Or would you convert it to a space for you as soon as they left?

Any ideas for what to do with empty rooms would also be great!
