Trump Named U.S. President
A new First Family is moving into the Whitehouse! As from today, Donald Trump is the new U.S. president. Are you surprised? After an eventful campaign that seemed to go on forever, Trump secured more votes than Hillary Clinton to be named the 45th U.S President.
The controversial Republican nominee wasn’t afraid to ruffle feathers, was he? The billionaire real estate tycoon managed to anger huge swathes of society with his comments about women and Muslims and his plan to build a huge wall along the U.S - Mexico border.
And it was a dirty campaign along the way with him branded a misogynist and Hillary a criminal! But he proved more popular than pollsters thought as he won over the 270 out of 538 electoral college votes needed to win the White House. Here at UKMums.TV, we’ve been watching the election with interest and predict (fingers crossed) that Trump runs a less inflammatory presidency than his campaign.
He certainly came across more humble in his maiden speech as president. First, he praised Hillary (the woman he said should be locked up!) by saying she “has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country”. He also said “it is time for us to come together as one united people," clearly attempting to heal any divisions.
We’re keen to see how this one pans out. What are your thoughts on Trump’s win? We’d love to know your reactions. Tell us over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
