Urgent need for good leaders in schools
We all want our children to attend a school that is led by a strong team, head teachers and department leaders alike, but the head of Ofsted Sir Michael Wilshaw has warned that there is an urgent need to recruit good future leaders for England’s schools, adding that we are in need of a system which trains teachers with leadership potential. He suggested that school leaders’ pay should be publicised and that good leaders should be identified early on so they can be moved straight into the top positions.
Sir Michael told MPs that good teachers could be moved into senior positions within a few years and many could be earning over £100,000. He said that more needs to be done to attract good candidates to become leaders to ensure that our children’s schools are led by the best.
In many countries around the world the status of teaching is very high and our kids deserve just as good. The Ofsted boss has urged everyone who is working in education to help boost the image of the profession to attract more potential teachers.
