Viewers were left shocked after witnessing a shark attack live on TV
Mick Fanning was probably a name that most of us had never heard before, but he’s become the most talked about athlete in the world after he is near death experience with a great white shark.
It was during this year’s J-Bay Open in South Africa that three time world champion, Fanning, came under attack from the shark, where it tried to pull him under using the rope on his board.
Viewers were stunned as they watched Fanning about to take to the surf, as a shark fin appeared and began to attack him. Mick managed to escape from the almighty shark by punching it in the back before swimming to the safety of the nearby jet skis.
Speaking after the incident, Fanning - who was astonishingly uninjured and lost only a leg rope in the incident - said: “It came up and got stuck in my leg rope. I instantly just jumped away. It kept coming at my board and I was kicking and screaming. I just saw fins. I punched it in the back.”
He’s since said that he is happy to never compete ever again, and to be honest we don’t blame him!
