Watch out for Christmas mail chaos
Here’s a warning to those hoping to send Christmas cards and presents via their local Post Office: Go in earlier this year! Post Office staff are set to stage FIVE DAYS of strikes next week, so watch out for Christmas mail chaos!
A total of 4,000 workers are expected to take part in strikes across 300 Post Offices in a long-running row over job losses, pensions and the franchising of larger high street branches. The action will either close Post Offices or see them operate with a skeleton staff and this is likely to cause disruption, with the last delivery days before Christmas next week!
As the Metro reports, the action will see shop counter staff walk out on December 19, 20 and Christmas Eve and cash handlers are preparing to strike on December 22 and 23. Communication Workers Union general secretary Dave Ward is quoted as saying its members were being “forced” into “fighting to save their jobs” and unless staff stand up now “the Post Office as we know it will cease to exist”.
So the message is to get your cards and gifts in the post pronto. Who knows how this one will pan out and you wouldn’t want any presents arriving after December 25th, would you? Let us know your thoughts on the planned strike over on our Facebook and Twitter.
