What was your first car?
What was your first car? We’re keen to know here at UKMums.TV because a new survey’s found that one in three teenaged Brits is given a motor for their 17th birthday. Lucky them! And it turns out the Ford Fiesta is the most popular first car.
Thoughts of your first motor can hold precious memories of new-found independence and experiences on the road which is why here at UKMums.TV we were interested to read the results of this survey and share it with you, as it’s found the top five most popular first cars!
A total of 2,226 Britons aged 30 and over, with at least one child now aged between 18 and 20, were asked questions about buying cars for their children. Some 36% of parents said they’d bought a car for their son or daughter’s 17th. These parents were then asked how much they’d spent on these motor vehicles and researchers calculated the average spend was £1,570.
The following five models emerged as the most popular: 1. Ford Fiesta, 32%, 2. Ford KA, 26%, 3. Vauxhall Corsa, 15%, 4. Renault Clio, 8%, and 5. Peugeot 107, 4%. Was your first motor one of these? Perhaps you bought one for an older child?
George Charles, of VoucherCodesPro which commissioned the survey, has this advice for parents planning on buying a car for their son or daughter: “Buying a car for a 17 year old is an incredible gesture but also sometimes quite a risky one; when people first learn to pass their test there is no telling how driving on their own will go! It’s always wise to keep car purchases for children cheap as writing off a Ford KA will be much less expensive than writing off an Audi R8!”
