Zookeeper mauled to death by tiger
The bank holiday was filled with every weather possible; we didn’t know whether to wear our flip flops or our wellies! Despite the odd shower, families didn’t let the bad weather ruin their bank holiday.
Families visited Hamerton Zoo Park expecting a day filled with family fun but things quickly took a turn for the worse when a tiger attacked one of the zookeepers. Rosa King a 33 year old zookeeper was mauled to death yesterday as visitors watched in horror. Zoo staff desperately tried to save her by hurling chunks of meat at the animal to try and distract it from Rosa, unfortunately they were not successful. Over a 100 visitors were evacuated from Hamerton Zoo in Cambridgeshire as police and paramedics rushed to the scene.
Visitor Pete Davis described hearing a girl's "blood-curdling scream" and he knew instantly that something was terribly wrong. He continued: “There's no doubting it was a girl's scream and something terrible had happened. It sounds like a tiger turned on her.”
Tributes have since poured in for Rosa King, with friends describing her as the 'shining light' of the zoo. Let us know your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.
