Are you suffering with back-to-work blues?
Are you back at work after a festive break filled with Christmas and New Year indulgence and relaxation? Going back to work after the Christmas break is always tough and you’re not the only one feeling the blues! We’ve put together these tips to rescue you from feelings of post-Christmas anxiety to help you ease back into your pre-festive routine.
1. Catch up with colleagues
Avoid any nasty surprises by organising a coffee and catch up with colleagues at work, as soon as you arrive if you can! They’ll quickly get you up to speed on anything of note that’s happened in your absence. It will help you feel less overwhelmed and prepared.
2. Go easy on yourself
It’s important to ease yourself in gently. Don’t be too ambitious on your first day back! Set yourself manageable goals, that way you won’t end up too disheartened and will cruise through to the end of play with a ‘that wasn’t so bad, was it?’ feeling.
3. Don’t get bogged down in emails
For those who deal with work emails, the message is not to get bogged down in your inbox straight away. Experts advise you to scan through for urgent messages only, leaving you time to start those more important tasks on your to-do list!
4. Work healthily
Before you begin, promise yourself you’ll work healthily from now on. Make it your New Year’s resolution. That means eating better at lunchtime, drinking more water and taking more screen breaks. Be good to yourself and your work will improve!
5. Plan another break
The return to work will be easier to bear if you already have another break to look forward to. Whether it’s for a holiday abroad, or just a day off, it’s worth booking some time away for early in the year!
