Beat the Winter Blues and Book a Short Trip Away in the Sun

The cold, dark, wet days of winter seem to go on and on and some of us here at are dreaming of escaping to the sun for a short break.  But where’s best to go?  Here are our favourite ideas.

1. Madeira

Madeira is an archipelago of four islands, situated off the northwest coast of Africa.  Best known for its wine and warm, subtropical climate, it is the perfect place for soaking up the sunshine, whether relaxing on the volcanic sands or playing a round of golf.  The stunning island scenery and botanical gardens are not to be missed and the capital, Funchal, offers a variety of outdoor activities as well as a buzzing nightlife.

2. Barbados

This Caribbean island is at its best from December to March, making it the perfect place to visit to get some sun during our winter.  Powdery beaches and fabulous blue seas offer visitors lots of beautiful places to laze in the sun or take part in water sports or, for those who want to know more about the birthplace of rum, tours of distilleries and sugar cane farms are a must!

3. Malta, Gozo and Comino

Island destinations again, this time in the Mediterranean, Malta, Gozo and Comino are full of historical influences with numerous nationalities having ruled this gateway between the Middle East and Europe over the centuries. There are lots of places to visit – the historic citadel at Mdina, Malta’s capital city, Valetta, The Azzure window rock formation on Gozo and the Blue Lagoon on Comino – as well as a bustling nightlife in Malta’s resorts of Buggibba, St. Julian’s and Sliema.

4. Dubai

Our final destination is Dubai – perhaps at its best in the cooler temperatures of our winter months, but still as glamourous!  Shopaholics will love the luxury shopping available, while foodies will have their taste buds tickled by the fantastic food with influences from all around the world.  And you certainly shouldn’t miss a trip into the desert for a taste of ancient Arabia!
