Best of summer drinks

It’s hot, hot, hot outside but what do you drink to cool yourself down when the summer sun’s making a big appearance? Take a look at our picks of the best summer home-made beverages for inspiration, with options that are suitable for all family members to drink.

1. Watermelon & Strawberry Slushie

For a fruity vibe this summer, how about a slushie that’s bursting with watermelon and strawberry flavours? We found this recipe on the BBC Good Food website. All you need is one small watermelon, a 225g punnet of ripe strawberries with the tops cut off, the juice of two limes and hey presto! It’s a refreshing way to keep kids cool in the summer heat!

2. Strawberry and black pepper cordial

This sophisticated cordial can made quickly and easily by heating strawberries and peppercorns in a pan with water in under 10 minutes. Just leave the mixture to strain in a bowl overnight, then ransfer to sterilised bottles with a heatproof funnel and seal.

3. Non-alcoholic tropical fizz

For a non-alcoholic cocktail that’s perfect for adults, we recommend this tropical mocktail which combines a range of summer fruits such as pineapple and kiwi. It’s another great summer drink idea from the BBC Good Food website. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to use up any tinned fruit you might have hanging around in the cupboard.

4. Boozy Blueberry Lemonade

For an alcoholic option that’s strictly for adults, here’s a recommendation from our friend at Ellie’s Kitchen with the premium vodka Ciroc which is perfect for making fruity cocktails during the summer season. Use it to spice up a simple lemonade along with sugar, mint leaves and blueberries.
