Best Weekend Breaks in England
St George’s Day isn’t far away now. England’s patron saint will be celebrated on Sunday, April 23rd and we thought we’d check out the best springtime destinations for a weekend with the family. Read on to discover the best that England has to offer for a short staycation at this time of year and take in some English heritage, too!
Just a short ferry hop across the English Channel, the Isle of Wight offers a great deal for families to experience at this time of year. Here at UKMums.TV, we recommend a trip to the stunning Osborne House, now run by English Heritage, which was a holiday home for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. History buffs will adore wandering round the palatial home and grounds. Plus, kids will have fun in the children’s playhouse. Check out the visitisleofwight website for details of other activities on the island.
Active and outdoorsy families will appreciate a weekend break in the Lake District which offers so much on its doorstep in the way of natural walks and breath-taking scenery which inspired the likes of poet William Wordsworth. Grab your hiking boots but brace yourself for the Cumbrian weather! For the kids, there’s The World of Beatrix Potter to experience, too. It’s an interactive family attraction which brings the Beatrix Potter stories to life in celebration of the area’s famous resident.
How could we highlight short breaks in England without listing England’s capital city as a top weekend destination for families? There’s so much on offer in London to help adults keep children entertained in spring, what with the beautiful parks, galleries and museums, many of which you can enter for free! We think you should put a trip to The Cutty Sark in Greenwich on your to-see list. It offers adults and children the chance to see what life on board the legendary sailing ship would have been like, an experience we’re sure would go down a treat with sea-loving youngsters!
