Half Term Days in the UK

Half Term Days in the UK

Have they really been back at school for seven weeks already?  We can’t believe how quickly time is flying by here at  And that perennial question of how to keep the children occupied for another week has been the topic of conversation with the mums amongst us, especially as the summer is now over and autumn, with its darker nights and colder weather, is here!  Here are our ideas.

Bake Off

With Bake Off back on TV again, why not see if you have any budding cooks in the family? Bake a batch of biscuits, a tray of fairy cakes or a Victoria sponge and, when you’ve cleared up all the mess, you’ve got a delicious treat to enjoy.  Don’t forget to send us photos of your children’s creations.

All kids like going to the cinema and there are some brilliant new films coming out around Half Term – Storks will be out on 21st September while The Queen of Katwe and Trolls both make their debut on 21st October.  If a trip to the cinema isn’t possible, then arrange a screening at home – get in their favourite DVD, bowls of popcorn and plenty of soft drinks, then draw the curtains and hey presto! they’ve got their very own front room cinema for a couple of hours (hopefully!).

Wildlife Parks

The UK has lots of different wildlife parks offering fun days out for all of the family – Safari Parks, Zoos, Aquariums and Wildlife Sanctuaries – so why not plan a trip?  Check out which has full details of places to visit throughout the UK – there’s bound to be one near you.

Arts and Crafts

Autumn is a wonderful time of year, with lots of changing colours as the trees start to lose their leaves.  Take the kids out and collect dry leaves to make an autumn collage or see if there are any conkers about.  They could also start making their scary outfits, ready for Halloween!  Again, we’d love to see photographs of their hard work.

Whether you enjoy skating or skiing or haven’t been before, why not let the kids burn off some of their excess energy for a couple of hours? Click here for nearby rinks or here which has details of all the ski slopes in the UK, both indoor and out.  Or, if that is a little too adventurous for you, take them to the local swimming pool for lots of splashing fun!  Whichever you choose, hopefully it will help tire them out and give you a peaceful evening.

Whatever you do this Half Term, don’t forget to let us know what you’re up to and send us your pics.
