Post- Christmas money saving tips
Have you totally blown your Christmas and New Year budget? We’ve all been there! It’s easy to overspend on presents, entertaining and going out, which is why we’ve put together post-festivity money saving tips. Follow them all and you’ll enjoy a healthier bank balance for 2017!
1. New Year’s resolution
It’s not too late to start a New Year’s resolution and big spenders would be wise to make saving cash their top priority for 2017. Shell out less on luxuries and focus more on the necessities this year. It will leave you with a healthier bank balance in the long-run!
2. Bargain hunt
Bargains can be found at any time of year, not just in the January sales, so be prepared to hunt if you’re after a big ticket item such as electronics and furniture at a knock down price. Be patient, take the time to shop around and don’t be tempted to impulse buy!
3. Budget, budget, budget
Get into the habit of making a list of all your essential outgoings every month, such as household bills and groceries. Match this against what your income is and this will tell you how much you have to spend on non-essentials such as going out. You’ll know how much you’re over-spending, too!
4. Clear your credit card
Don’t brush mounting debts under the carpet! They might offer a convenient way to spend at the time, but credit card bills can quickly spiral out of control. Tackling any debts you have head on will stop you paying vast amounts in accumulated interest!
5. Shop smart
Be organised when it comes to your weekly shop, make a list of what you need and stick to it! Don’t be tempted by two-for-one offers on foods you know you’ll never eat by the use by date and don’t be afraid to try own brands.
