 Wedding Planning Tips

So your significant other has popped the question and you’ve said ‘yes’! Huge congratulations!  Now the fun begins as you plan your big day and prepare to say ‘I do’ in style. You’re bound to be feeling overwhelmed with emotion as you think of venues, vows and table plans, but don’t fear! Read our top wedding planning tips to help you organise the day of your dreams.

1. Set a budget

There’s no getting around it, weddings can be extremely expensive affairs with the average cost of UK nuptials now at around £20,000! But they can also be done on a budget, too! That’s why it’s important to work out how much you can save in time for the big event and how much you can realistically afford, then you can set a date!

2. Think of numbers

Do you dream of a big fairytale wedding attended by hundreds, or an intimate affair with just a few of your nearest and dearest? This crucial consideration will determine the important details such as the venue you opt for (mansion or marquee?). The cost per head will affect this too, so keep your budget in mind. Start by writing the names of guests you absolutely have to invite!

3. Plan, plan, plan

Here at UKMums.TV, we recommend buying a planner; it will help you sort out the details of the day in an organised fashion. Set yourself deadlines for important tasks like the ordering of invites (if you’re buying them in) and sending them out. And remember to book venues and photographers well in advance as those most in demand tend to get snapped up early. Don’t risk missing out!

4. Be a beauty

Like it or not, as the blushing bride you’ll be the centre of attention on the big day. So don’t be afraid to splash a good proportion of the wedding budget on the dress of your dreams, or to treat yourself to a makeup artist to help you look your best. The last thing you’ll want is to look back on your wedding photos and hate your wedding look! Check out wedding magazines for bridal inspiration.

5. Relax

Wedding planning is a wonderful time but stressful time, too; that’s why it’s important to remember to take time out for yourself and your hubby-to-be now and again; a trip to the cinema or a restaurant will soon put paid to any pre-wedding woes and remind you of why you love each-other so much! Plus, don’t be afraid to ask for help getting the last-minute details together.  Isn’t that what bridesmaids and ushers are for?!

Good luck with the wedding planning!
