Places to visit in the UK over Christmas
Can’t decide where to take the family over the Christmas period? Well look no further as we have our top five places to visit. From Christmas Markets to underground grottos, there's something for everyone.
1) Underground Grotto in Wales and Gloucestershire.
Why not take a family day out to the rural picturesque Wales. Visit Santa and receive a gift, or have a bounce around and buy a mince pie. You can also go to the underground magic at the Clear Well Caves, just near the Forest of Dean. Families can walk from cave to cave following the story and at the end there's a Christmas Market and Café. This event is on between 13-14th December and 20-24th December in Wales. Alternatively, head to Gloucestershire where it is taking place now until Christmas Eve.
2) Birmingham German Christmas Market
Why not try the German Market in central Birmingham, its placed right next to the Bullring shopping centre. Go shopping and have lots of German drinks and food at the same time, what more could you want? This German Market is something for all of the family to enjoy. There is no cost to get into the market as it’s open air, so don’t forget you coats and hats and spending money for when you’re mooching around the little stalls. The market is open from 16th November to 24th December.
3) Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park, London
A day filled with fun, from loud music, to fair rides to all of the magical Christmas lights. There are attractions such as Cinderella on Ice, the Magical Ice Kingdom, Ice Skating and much more. The entry fee is free, you just have to pay for tickets whilst inside for things to do like the ice skating etc. Winter wonderland is running from 18th November to 1st January except for Christmas day.
4) Blackpool Christmas lights
Blackpool Christmas lights are great! They give you such a magical feeling and they definitely get you into the Christmas spirit. The lights are right next to the sea so you get the fresh cold breeze. You could spend a weekend in a B&B and make the most of it with plenty of other activities to do whilst you're there. The Christmas lights are on from 2nd December until the end of December. Such a nice way to start off your Christmas!
5) Northampton Derngate Panto
