Summer reads for the kids

Pry your little one away from all things tech and swap the IPad out for a book this summer. From picture books and general fiction, we’ve rounded up our top five favourite titles for your child to read over the holiday and our selection is perfect for all ages.

1. Lucie Goose, RRP £6.99
As one of the five books that was nominated for the Oscar Book Prize, Lucie Goose is a vibrant picture book by the popular comedy writer, journalist and screenwriter, Danny Baker. Lucie Goose lives alone in a secluded house that sits at the edge of the woods. She has never met or spoken to another animal, until a group of chums including a wolf, a bear and a lion turn up at her doorstep and ROAR! She should start screaming and run away, but Lucie Goose doesn’t scare easily.

2. The World’s Worst Children 3, RRP £14.99
Containing even more stories of the world’s worst children, children’s favourite author and funny talent show judge, David Walliams, has released his latest book, The World’s Worst Children 3. From 10-year-old Hank who plays endless pranks on his family to Tandy and her titanic tantrums, this book has arrived just in time for the summer holiday and is a must-read!

3. That Bear Can’t Babysit, RRP £6.99
That Bear Can’t Babysit was also shortlisted for the Oscar Book Prize. Written by Ruth Quayle and illustrated by Alison Friend, this story is good fun. When Mr and Mrs Burrows hire a babysitter, they aren’t expecting Bear. And Bear is in for a surprise too as Bear is not expecting to look after a group of playful little bunnies.

4. The Boy Who Grew Dragons, RRP £5.99
The Boy Who Grew Dragons is another new release that’s arrived just in time for the summer. Written by Andy Shepherd and illustrated by Sara Ogiluie, The Boy Who Grew Dragons is about a boy called Tomas, who you guessed it, grows his very own dragons from a dragon fruit tree!

5. Rainbow Magic: Meghan the Wedding Sparkle Fairy, RRP £4.99
Following on from the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, what better book for your little one to read than Meghan the Wedding Sparkle Fairy by Daisy Meadows.
